Why California is Broke and Texas Isn't
The number one state that California companies move to when they leave California's horrible anti-business regulatory and tax nightmare? Texas.
The serious answer to why Texas isn't broke but California is...is pretty simple: Texas isn't confused about things like global warming and illegal immigrants and providing everything to everyone for free like California is. Also, Texas has a business friendly tax structure, and has a people friendly tax structure...it has no income tax on people! Louisiana even considered changing its tax structure because so many of its people were moving to Texas! Officials in Georgia, North Carolina and Ohio have all cited Texas as the model for tax reform at the state level. California's solution to every problem? Just tax people more. Issue more bonds and raise more taxes. The massively socialist state is on the brink of bankruptcy and all it can do is talk about raising taxes on people. What arrogance. When will it end? We think it will end when the state is broke, and comes crawling to the Feds for a bail out.
Things absolutely have to change in California. The state cannot support the combination of a retirement system for state employee's, like the criminal teachers union, continuing to allow people to double and triple dip retirement plans (retire from one fire department, get a pension. Go to work for another fire department in a different city, get another pension.) The state cannot support the illegal immigrants that don't pay taxes yet burden the state with costs. The state cannot support giving free housing, food, cell phones, to a population that now just doesn't work because they get rewarded with subsistence pay... for being poor. There is no reward for them to go to work, and not enough pain for them when they aren't working to go get a job. The tent cities are now being widely reported on national news. California's Democrats, who have run this state and its major cities for a long, long time, should be ashamed at the images that are now finally being sent around the globe. California. Go surfing and get stabbed with a used heroin needle that washed down the river where thousands live in tent cities and shoot up. California, where every major city has seen the number of homeless grow and grow every year under Obama. Congratulations Democrats, this is your shining example of a state you're proud of? It's disgusting and gross. It makes me sick. Soon Los Angeles will be like Paris - nobody will want to come.
On a lighter note: I heard this the other day and wanted to pass it along to all of you. This is not original content from TotallyRight, but it fits our site and our beliefs perfectly. Here's how the story goes:
The other day, the Governor of California was jogging along a park road with his dog. Suddenly a coyote jumped out and attacked the dog. At first the Governor was going to come to the aid of his dog, but instead, he let the coyote kill the dog because, after all, the coyote was only doing what was natural. After running away and getting back to his office, the Governor had the entire park closed for evaluation. He commissioned a study of the park and its coyote population which cost $1mm. He then hired a consultant to develop an educational program on coyote awareness, which cost another $1mm. Before reopening the park, the Governor wanted to help the coyotes which were being encroached upon by humans, so he created "coyote safe zones" where people were not allowed to go and where the coyotes would be able to hunt. Over half the park became off limits to people. This closure and the related fencing and signage work that had to be done cost the state $3 million. Total cost: $5 million.
In Texas, the Governor was jogging with his dog and a coyote jumped out and attacked the dog. The Governor, always strapped, pulled his .38 revolver and shot the coyote. Cost: $0.50 for the bullet. The buzzards removed the coyotes carcass. Cost: $0. The Governor and his dog continued their jog.
And that is why California is broke and Texas isn't.
