Concealed Carry License Reciprocity Law is Introduced
Senate Bill 446 is now before the Senate for a vote. This new law, if enacted, would mean that anyone with a license to carry a weapon from any state would be able to do so in any state in the nation. As it stands today, if you have a license in Texas, you can't carry in California. If you have a license in Arizona, you can't carry in California. In fact, if you have a license anywhere in the US - you can't carry in California, unless California issued you a license. Ahhh the arrogance of California.
This bill will make your license in Florida, or any state, valid in all states, including the arrogant California. You have to think that the California politicians are going bat shit crazy over this. Now, your concealed carry license would be just like your driver's license, as it should be. After all, in order to get the license, you had to be trained, pass tests, prove you can shoot, prove you know firearms safety, and undergo an FBI background check. I would say that is a lot more than you have to go through to drive a car. Both are lethal weapons. Cars kill roughly 35,000 people a year. Over the last 10 years, guns, registered to concealed carry holders, were responsible for 921 non-self-defense gun deaths according the Violence Policy Center. The National Review points out that of these 295 were suicides. A total of 324 permit holders purportedly killed other people. (National Review, January 19, 2017) The National review states that the VPC has purportedly double or triple counted the numbers. Regardless, you get the point. According to The Daily Caller, Concealed Carry Permit holders are, by and large as a group, one of the most law abiding groups in the nation by a wide margin, more law abiding, it turns out, than police officers!
This law is important if you're a trucker, or even an average citizen, and you're driving across the country with your gun concealed on your person, but you may have crossed into another state that you are NOT licensed in, making you a criminal law breaker immediately without any real reason. Any law that makes you a felon simply by stepping over an imaginary boundary line on a map in our country seems stupid to me. This law would eliminate that kind of irresponsible criminalization of law abiding citizens.
Finally, this is a good point in which to talk about the value of concealed carry citizens walking amongst us. It has been proven statistically, in real life, that when a state has a high number of concealed carry license holders, such as in Utah, the crime rate is low. In fact, according the the Washington Times, during the Obama Administration, the number of concealed carry permits roughly doubled and the overall crime rate dropped meaningfully. States that don't allow concealed carry have violent crime rates 11% higher than those that allow it according to www.gunfacts.info. In a nearly 30 years study, gun homicides were shown to be 10% higher in states with restrictive CCW laws. As you know, Chicago has very few concealed carry licenses and has the strictest gun control in the nation. This approach, the idea that strong gun control laws prevents crime and murder, is completely disproven by Chicago. Completely statistically disproven. Having safe zones or "gun free zones" such as in Paris, has proven to be totally ineffective, and in fact, endangers people even more by attracting bad guys with illegal guns to a "soft target", one in which they can do lots of damage and not risk anyone being armed and shooting back at them. If there had been 5 or 6 armed citizens in that theatre in Paris, perhaps 120 people would not have died there, captive in their seats with no means to defend themselves. If even one man stood up and fired back, the cowards would have likely run and lives would have been saved.
If you have any question about how people really feel about having a concealed carry person around them when they're out and about the city, ask a woman. 9 out of 10 will say they like the idea and feel safer knowing their boyfriend or husband or a good friend they're out with has a gun and will protect her if the SHTF. And don't forget that women themselves are not waiting around for men to protect them. They are the fastest growing group of new gun buyers in the USA according to the NRA and Breitbart. The NRA says 30% of concealed carry and related merchandise is made specifically with women in mind.
Better think twice bad guys.
