An Unexpected Sighting
The other night I was in a part of town that is both rough, but is also undergoing a re-awakening. Historic buildings are being rehabilitated, cool restaurants and cool coffee shops are popping up. Young people are around, 20's and 30 somethings. Art shows in the open air. Walk streets installed. Couples walking with their young children. There's a vibe that's cool and hip...uplifting because this area has been rough for a long time.
As I was observing all of this around me, I spotted a table of about 8 people - they had put their arms on each others shoulders and I could see one man about 35 years old saying a prayer for the whole table. I got a little closer and listened as the table was outside in the open, open for all to view. The young man gave thanks for them all being able to come together and share their friendship and laughter and their tears that night. He prayed for all their children and their families. It was a really good, sincere, loving prayer.
What made such an impression on me was that this took place in what was once, and still is at time, one of the toughest parts of LOS ANGELES. That's right, prayer in Los Angeles, California, where being a Christian, believing in God, talking to God, and doing so out in the open for all to see just isn't and cool. But there it was.
I can't tell you what that did for my heart that night. I'm pretty jaded sometimes, and this lifted me up and gave me encouragement. California is an island of Democrat insanity, the state that is so far left that there are millions of idiots here that want to secede from the USA and actually think they can become their own country. Only the arrogance and stupidity of Californians would seriously believe in this and take steps to try to make it happen. In a state where you have to look really hard to find a building built before 1950, I guess they forgot that some boys in the south tried this and we fought a war over it and settled once and for all that you cannot leave the Union. It is the UNITED States of America. Period.
Regardless of whatever the idiot Democrats in California are doing, it was awesome to observe this group of good friends, men and women of Christ and children of God all of them, praying and lifting the hearts of other Christians around them, fearless in their display of their love of God even when those around them may not think it cool or politically correct.
