The Drought in California is Over...Liberal Leftists Disappointed
Not long ago, Jerry Brown the Governor of California, seeing an opportunity to make money for this consistently impoverished state, was going to use water and the drought as a means to TAX Californians and bring in massive dollars to the state government. He even went so far as to place restrictions on use, financially penalize homeowners that didn't reduce their water use by 24% immediately. In April 2015 he issued the states first mandatory restrictions, and in May of 2016 he made some of these temporary restrictions permanent. Then something funny happened. It started to rain. A lot.
Only in a government controlled situation like this would we find a result this insane: People cut back MORE than 24%, and in so doing, reduced the revenue to the government water districts so much that the water districts RAISED RATES to offset the shortfall. So as a law abiding customer, trying to comply with the restrictions, you cut your usage, only to be hit with a rate increase...because you cut back so much. How insane is that?
While the drought was going on for the last 4-5 years, the Left was scheming to start a whole new water based tax regime in which the state would reap billions in taxes from residents. It's a nice little scam. Make the usage restriction so severe that almost nobody can abide by it, and then tax people on the over use (as if they're terrible wasteful people) and bring in billions. They were putting all of this into place when, something happened.
It started to rain.
And it rained and rained and rained. And it is still raining today as I write this. The wettest year I ever remember for the past 53 years I've lived in California. So I looked it up, and low and behold, the state has seen more precipitation than ever...in fact, more than in any year since 1922. In fact, as of January 3, 2017 by the states own web site, almost all the states reservoirs are either way above historical average and heading to total capacity, or at historical averages. Shasta, which is a huge lake feeding the state and one of the top 2 reservoirs in the state, is approaching total capacity and is way, way above its historical average. Folsom is 145% above historical average, McClure is 140% above average, Oroville is 123% above, Shasta is 129% above, Pine Flat is at 106%, San Luis is at 95%. This makes Jerry's plan a little harder to sell to the people of California. But he's going to jam the tax down our throats anyway, you watch.
Despite the facts listed above, there is still a drought, according to the state of California. Forget the facts. Forget what we can all see - which is a ton of rain and reservoirs now so full they are letting water OUT in order not to flood the towns above. Why is the state still saying there is a drought? Because under the law, there is a drought until Jerry Brown says there isn't a drought. And it doesn't fit the Left wing narrative. That's right. Our Governor, who last time I checked was not a meteorologist, can say there's a drought even when there isn't one...like he is right now. And he can still implement his water taxes even though there is NO VALID CAUSE to do so anymore.
How much do you want to wager that Jerry will never take the state off a state of emergency drought, and when there is a few dry months, they'll still try to ram another tax down the throats of the people of California?
UPDATE: Hey Jerry, its still raining and it's March now. When are you going to say we're not in a drought anymore you fool! And by the way, there certainly is climate change, isn't there? It changes all the time. Like when you say there's global warming, it gets cooler, and when you say we're in a permanent drought, it rains for 8 months straight. The climate is always changing and always has, Jerry and Democrat liberal idiots, and it always will. And climate change and humans on earth have nothing to do with one another! Get real! #FAKE SCIENCE
