Snowflakes: Safe Spaces, Trauma Triggers, MicroAggression, and Income Equality
America has gone soft. I hear it all the time, and I agree with it. It's also gone quite loony, and the two are connected. I blame the helicopter parents. They are the ones that created these weak ass, give me stuff for free, totally out of touch young people today, that feel entitled, that think the world should have things like "income equality" and who spend their time trying to come up with a reason why they might feel "marginalized" and need a Safe Space.
Let's get some definitions done: Snowflakes are college aged kids today, that seek to avoid emotionally charged topics or dissenting ideas and opinions because they are "too upsetting". Also known as The Snowflake Generation. They need "Safe Spaces" which are places that have been created on college campuses that allow students that are "feeling marginalized" to be supported, particularly LGBT kids according to Wikipedia. Trauma trigger warnings were something that UC Santa Barbara (California, wouldn't you know) passed a resolution about. It said that if there is potentially upsetting material that might be discussed in class, the professor had to give the kids a warning, and the students could then skip those classes that made them "uncomfortable."
WTF IS HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY?
If I had come home from school one day and told my father that I was feeling "marginalized" and that I was "scared" in a general sense, and needed a Safe Space, he would have handed me a shovel and an axe and said, "Shovel out the barn, replant those two trees over there, take the axe and chop up that tree stump, while you have the axe go ahead and chop a cord or two of wood and fill up the wood shed for your mother and me, then fix the fence over there. If you're still feeling like margarine when you're done with that, I'll spread you on my baked potato at dinner and you can whine to your mother." We didn't have time to think about our feelings! We had work to do, fences to fix, money to earn, homework to do, Boy Scouts for me, Girl Scouts for my sister, baseball for me, dance for my sister. Chores. And more chores. We learned how to CONTRIBUTE to the family - even as children. And you know what that produced? GROWN UP PEOPLE THAT CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY. Not take from it.
I will tell you this right now. There is a reason our military is staffed by minorities today instead of mostly white kids which was the case 30 or 40 years ago. These minority kids have grown up in public schools, got their asses kicked, had to learn to fight, had to learn how to run, jump climb fences and survive on the Streets like whites did 30 years ago. Their parents didn't interview the teacher to see if the kids had a frikkin safe zone or were given trauma trigger warnings. Parents tell their kids "You do what the teacher says or I'll kick your ass!" That is how most of us that are over 40 grew up, white or black or brown. This nation of snowflakes will graduate from college and not have ANY idea how to take care of themselves or this country that we're leaving them. What a bunch of soft pieces of useless humanity. No wonder ISIS and Iran and the Taliban doesn't see us as a threat anymore. If they're what they see, why would they?
God save us.
